Understanding Microsoft Copilot Chat
Microsoft Copilot Chat (Basic) is enterprise-ready AI chat available to all students, faculty and staff as a part of your Microsoft 365 subscription. It's your AI assistant for work, combining the power of the latest large language models (LLMs) with web-based insights to help you with tasks like summarizing, brainstorming, writing, coding, and searching. It provides intelligent suggestions and automates repetitive tasks to make your work easier.
Whether researching industry insights, analyzing data, or looking for inspiration, Copilot Chat (Basic) gives you access to better answers, greater efficiency, and new ways to get their work done through chat and agents. Copilot Chat (Basic) adheres to Microsoft's AI principles .
Copilot Chat (Basic) works best for tasks that don't depend on your team files, emails, or meetings. Turn to it when you need to research a topic, brainstorm ideas, draft a first version of an email or document, or get quick answers grounded in the web.
If your task depends on your own work content instead, such as summarizing a specific meeting or analyzing a spreadsheet you already have open, you need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license which is available for departments to subscribe eligible employees to thru a departmental chargeback on our Microsoft On-Demand Apps service page.
