New Alumni Services

LEAVING DREXEL AS NEW ALUMNI

After finishing classes, you become part of the Drexel alumni family. This section is for new graduates who are leaving the University and not continuing their studies or working as employees or volunteers.

Drexel Email

You will keep your Drexel Microsoft 365 email mailbox as long as your account is active. However, your email address will change to reflect your new status as an alumnus.

  • About a month after graduation, you will receive new email addresses for your mailbox that end with @dragons.drexel.edu. Please use these addresses moving forward.
  • Your old @drexel.edu addresses will be removed one year* after graduation, so inform your contacts about the change. The sign-in process will also change—details will be sent to your Drexel email as the date approaches.

For your new @dragons.drexel.edu addresses, please note:

  • We will create new email addresses for your mailbox ending with @dragons.drexel.edu, corresponding to each existing @drexel.edu address you have (like userid@drexel.edu and First.Middle.Last@drexel.edu, and alias@drexel.edu if you set one up).
  • Your mailbox's "send from" address will change to your new address. Emails sent from your Drexel mailbox will appear to come from userid@dragons.drexel.edu.

Microsoft 365

While your email service will continue, other Microsoft 365 services will end about a month after graduation. You may lose access to your OneDrive files at any time after this period. Please back up your OneDrive files as soon as possible to avoid losing them.

Content stored in SharePoint or Teams will remain accessible to others with the right permissions, but you will no longer have access to those sites, teams, or their contents.

OneDrive, Word, Excel, and other Office apps are available for purchase at microsoft.com/office.

DrexelOne

Alumni can access DrexelOne (one.drexel.edu) for one year* after graduation to check records, request unofficial transcripts, and more.

Other Services

Access to campus resources like lab computers, wireless networks, and VPN is expected to end 30-90 days after graduation.

Frequently-Asked Questions

If you have questions about your accounts and new alumni status, please see the New Alumni FAQ.

*one year: The transition to new alumni services (including @drexel.edu addresses and DrexelOne access) is planned for one year after graduation. This transition may take longer than a year, but you will receive an email notice before it happens.

CONTINUING AT THE UNIVERSITY AFTER GRADUATION

Paid Employment

  • If you continue as a Drexel employee, your Drexel computer account will remain an employee account. The main difference is that employees cannot forward their email to another provider.
  • Due to the University's legal obligations to protect data, employee accounts are closed shortly after employment ends, regardless of alumni status. You can request a new, empty @dragons.drexel.edu account.
    • If you have important emails from your student time, make sure to copy or download them before your employee position ends. (You must not keep institutional information from your employee role.)

Formal Unpaid Positions (Non-Employee Associates)

  • The "non-employee associate" (NEA) status in the University HR system formally registers individuals participating in the University but not paid by Drexel. This includes Volunteer Faculty and Medical Residents.
  • If you become a non-employee associate after graduation, you will keep your Drexel sign-in credentials and access to DrexelOne.
  • Like paid employees, your account will close when your non-employee associate position ends. You can request a new, empty @dragons.drexel.edu account.

RETURNING TO THE UNIVERSITY

  • The process for alumni who leave and return in a new role is similar to what is described under "Continuing at the University after Graduation."

INFORMATION FOR EARLIER GRADUATES (CLASSES 2016 AND BEFORE)

  • Before 2017, alumni accounts were closed two years after graduation. Unless you held another role at Drexel in the meantime, your old student account is no longer available.
  • For a time, Alumni Relations offered forwarding addresses ending with @alum.drexel.edu. If you have one of these, it is still functional. For support with an existing @alum.drexel.edu forwarding address, contact alumni@drexel.edu, 215.895.ALUM.
  • We hope to establish new @dragons.drexel.edu accounts for past alumni upon request in the future, but this service is not yet available.
