Best Practices for IA Data Requests

Summary

What should I be thinking about when submitting a data request?

Body

To help your request move quickly and reduce revisions:

  • Get the request in as soon as you can. These things may take time.
  • Clearly state the population you are requesting
  • Explain how the data will be used (outreach, solicitation, reporting, analysis)
  • Specify:
    • Date ranges (gift date vs. fiscal year)
    • Gift types to include or exclude
    • Specific allocations, funds, or campaigns
  • If counts matter, indicate whether you expect:
    • Unique constituents
    • Individual gifts
    • Individual allocations
  • If asking for dollar amounts, specify whether you want NGC or Cash
