OVERVIEW OF SERVICE
The Technical Services Team provides procurement, life cycle management, oversight, calibration, and repair for the diagnostic tools used across our facilities. By balancing the needs of high-volume patient care at both The Eye Institute (TEI), The Eye Institute at Chestnut Hill with the rigorous educational demands of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Elkins Park, our technical team ensures every instrument meets the highest standards of precision and safety.
Description & Features
- Precision Calibration: Regular verification of autorefractors, lensometers, and keratometers, VR Lab, M&S Visual Acuity Charts, etc.
- Mechanical Refurbishment: "Clean and lube" services for phoropters and slit lamps to ensure smooth operation and optical clarity.
- Imaging System Support: Technical maintenance of high-tech sensors and cooling systems for OCTs, retinal cameras, and topography units.
- Infrastructure Management: Maintenance of hydraulic exam chairs, balanced instrument arms, and digital visual acuity systems.
- Compliance & Safety: Comprehensive electrical safety testing and grounding checks to meet healthcare regulatory standards.

Costs for repairs vary by repair issue and will be charged to the requester cost center.

Training Sessions
Technical Services can provide basic equipment handling and basic troubleshooting workshops. Students receive equipment orientation as part of their clinical rotations at the Elkins Park campus.
