There are many learning technologies that are directly integration with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Some examples of these include Kaltura, Turnitin, and the many publisher content sites. These tools connect with the LMS using the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standard. Configuring LTI establishes trust between Canvas and the third-party tool such that, when a link for the tool is deployed in a course, clicking on it will seamlessly pass the user over to the external tool. This means students will not have to login to the tool after clicking the link from the course because Canvas securely passes that information to the external system.
Adding Tools to Canvas
To have an external tool configured to use the LTI integration into Canvas, there are several steps that must be completed. These include the following:
Once those steps have been completed, the tool may be submitted to the Instructional Technology Group for installation within Canvas. If the license is for the entirety of Drexel University, then it will be made available to everyone across the system. If it is only licensed for certain colleges, schools, or departments, then it will only be deployed on those sub-accounts that should have access.
