Office 365 for Students
Why Did Drexel Choose Office 365?
Drexel chose Microsoft Office 365 because of familiarity with the Office Suite at Drexel and at the bulk of businesses. In addition, Office 365 met our Data Security requirements for our researchers' cloud storage needs. Use of an all-inclusive application suite such as Office 365 will result in a streamlined experience for our user community.
How do I sign in to Office 365?
Sign in (or go to portal.office.com ) with your Drexel email address (userID in the format abc123). If you haven't installed Office 365 apps yet, you will be taken to the installation page. Self-sign up is not enabled for Drexel students.
Note: Installing Office 365 apps will replace any current Office installations you have on your computer or device!
How Do I Forward My Email?
While we hope you will take an honest look at Office 365 before reactivating forwarding, please be aware that future Office 365 services will hook in to this mailbox. If you forward now, you'll deny yourself some of the benefits that come from integrating these services.
If you wish to proceed on Forwarding:
- Sign in to portal.office.com using a web browser on a computer - this does not work on mobile devices.
- Click the gear icon near the upper right of the page. In the Settings panel that appears, look for the Your App Settings near the bottom. Click Mail.
- On the Outlook Settings tab that appears in your browser, scan down for the Mail section, then Accounts, then Forwarding.
- Enter the email address you wish to forward to, and click Save.
Will my custom email alias still work after the migration?
Yes, custom email address aliases will be carried over to Office 365.
What devices can I use Office 365 on?
Office supports PCs and Windows tablets running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs with Mac OS X 10.6 or higher. Office for iPad can be installed on iPads running version 7.0 or higher.
I used to be able to sign in with my abc123@drexel.edu account and it does not work now... What happened?
You may have previously self-registered yourself for access to Office 365 by creating your own account. You may have done this so you could receive Microsoft Office for free.
In preparation for offering a wider array of Office 365 services, Microsoft accounts that end with “@drexel.edu” are being linked to the actual accounts at Drexel. This means that the Office 365 website and Office apps will use the same Drexel account name and password that you use with most other Drexel services - instead of the self registered account.
If you're not able to log in, try logging in using the same password you use to log into Drexel services. If that does not work, please contact the IT Help Desk. and we can look at your account profile.
My account was converted and now my data is gone. What should I do?
Contact the IT Help Desk. Let us know what types of files (OneDrive or OneNote) are missing, as well as much detail as possible, and we will investigate further.
I signed up for an Office 365 account using my official alias address (firstname.lastname). Will that be changed?
Yes. All Drexel users should log into Office 365 using their Drexel username (abc123@drexel.edu).
If your Office 365 cloud account has data in it that you would like to save, please contact us at 215.895.2020 or consult@drexel.edu so we can assist you with migrating your content prior to your cloud account being disabled.
What happens to Office 365 after I graduate?
Your Office 365 subscription through Drexel ends upon graduation. You may enroll into other consumer or commercial offers available. You should make sure to transfer all of your files from your Drexel OneDrive to your personal OneDrive prior to graduation.
